Information Technology Online
Following the Onward to Your Career course and the Information Technology Foundations course, participants immediately transition to one of nine online, self-paced distance learning courses aligned to IT industry credentials in networking, security, help desk administration and Java software development for up to a six-week period.
These learning pathways were developed by IVMF in collaboration with Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies and Whitman School of Management. Pathways include a combination of licensed Skillsoft training content and custom content and resources developed through the partnership with the school of Information Technology. They are delivered using Metrix, a customized third-party learning management system with which IVMF has a long-standing contract, and were selected based on the needs and requests of our industry partners.
The learning pathways currently available through the O2O Information Technology Track include the following (as of December 2015):
- CompTIA A+
- CompTIA Network +
- CompTIA Security +
- Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT)
- CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associated)
- SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner)
- CISSP (Information Systems Security Certified Professional)
- JAVA SE7 Fundamentals
- Microsoft Networking Fundamentals (Microsoft Technical Associate)
When participants complete the required online coursework, each will be required to take at least one practice certification exam prior to scheduling their official certification exam, and must obtain a score of at least 85%. These are provided to participants at no cost, and ensure the participant is indeed prepared to take the exam. Once a passing score is achieved, the O2O team works with the participant to schedule and fund the cost of their certification exam.
Throughout the online learning component, Onward to Opportunity participants will work with a Veteran Transition Specialist to tailor their resume to the specific needs of our industry partners and prepare them for interview opportunities. Learn more about this process here.
